Today, shiplap is generally a horizontally installed paneling or covering used to create a rustic look mimicking that of an old exterior of a barn or shed. It's signature look creates one that gives the appearance of a board and channel. While it was once used almost exclusively as an exterior material for the durability and strength from the elements these lapped joints created, it is now a common staple of Farmhouse and Modern Farmhouse design.
